Capcom plans to use AI to speed game development; OpenAI safety employee resignation draws attention

Capcom is planning to use artificial intelligence to improve game development efficiency. According to reports, the company plans to use AI to speed up the game development process, though it has previously said it won't use AI-generated content in its games. [1]

At the same time, Capcom's attitude toward AI is not entirely one of rejection. During Capcom Open Conference RE: 2026, programmer Satoshi Ishida gave a presentation on the outlook for the REX project and further evolving the RE Engine. Reports noted that the studio is preparing for a “future where we create games together with AI.” [3] The report also mentioned that Capcom's Pragmata might be all about the horrors of AI, but in practice the studio doesn't seem so down on the technology. [3]

On AI industry governance, another report says OpenAI safety employee David Robinson has resigned and claimed the company's “culture is broken.” By his own admission, he is “something of a cliché”: an employee at a leading AI company who issues a dire warning while resigning from his job. [2]

The above reflects what the reports described; the specific scope of Capcom's implementation and OpenAI's follow-up response still await further information.
